Yesterday I spoke at the first Waterloo Turf conference.
They are building the first (and soon-to-be-largest) nationwide artificial turf brand.
As a franchisee, I acquired the Houston market and part of Dallas.
I’m also an investor & board member at the franchisor level.

Most service businesses solve problems people don’t want to talk about.
When’s the last time you invited friends over to see your freshly repaired plumbing?
But a new putting green in your backyard?
People throw parties to show it off!
Every installation becomes a billboard. Now that we’re 9 months into operating, it’s exciting to see this referral machine kick into action.
We just won a HUGE referral job last week.
Low overhead + Simple model
This is a 100% mobile business.
To start, we have no warehouse, expensive equipment, or inventory.
Materials get delivered straight to the site.
The crews get paid by the project and bring their own equipment
Residential + Commercial
Commercial turf has been around forever: sports fields, playgrounds, hotels, dog parks, restaurants.
These can be home-run jobs.
Residential is quickly growing because people want their weekends back.
They are replacing their old swing sets with putting greens
Some markets even offer tax incentives to install turf due to water constraints.
Recurring Revenue?
We are working to establish a recurring “turf refresh” program.
Monthly or quarterly service to clean, deodorize, and maintain the turf.
