I realized something a long time ago: business is a team sport
Which means I would need a championship-caliber team to win.
But at the time, my team was far from it.
Most people are built for mediocre teams. They show up, do what’s asked, then clock out.
Nothing wrong with that except that’s not how you win championships.
How could I tell?
I was constantly following up with them:
- “Did you finish that?”
- “Where are we on this?”
- “Did you hear back from that customer?”
It was exhausting
Not only did I have to manage my own tasks but also theirs.
Then everything changed.
I identified a type of employee who actually gave me freedom.
I could hand them something, then delete it from my brain. Not because I stopped caring but because I knew it was handled.
Instead of carrying 50 open loops in my head, I carried 3 or 4.
