Frios Pops: My Favorite Low Cost Franchise

Frios is my favorite low-cost franchise: –

  • Simple model
  • Flexible schedule
  • $40-72k to start-up
  • Family-friendly business

Start now to be ready for the summer!

Simple Business Model

Frios is a modern-day ice cream truck selling pre-packaged gourmet popsicles.

There is no kitchen, prep, clean-up, or fryers. You’re just handing out popsicles and selling “happiness on a stick.” This makes licensing and operating very easy.

Franchisees sell pops in three ways:

  • Sweet Ride – attend events, festivals, fairs, & high school games
  • Carts – drop off for pre-paid events or seller at smaller events
  • Wholesale – ship to the local restaurant, hotel, corner store, etc.

Most franchisees have several carts to run multiple events per weekend. A single large cart can hold 800 to 1,000 pops.

Gourmet Flavors

All the pops are hand-made with only four to five natural ingredients at their facility in Alabama.

A couple of highlights:

  • Key Lime Pie
  • Cotton Candy
  • Pink Lemonade
  • Root Beer Float
  • Pineapple Mango
  • Cookies N Cream
  • Blueberry Cheesecake

Would you rather eat a popsicle made with real strawberries or “strawberry-flavored” liquid sugar poured over ice?

Revenue Streams

The more you hustle to get Frios into people’s hands, the more money you’ll make.

Retail – school events, football games, festivals, farmers markets, parades, weddings, birthday parties, block parties, & more.

Corporations – sell to companies who stock their office freezer, celebrate accomplishments, or at company parties.

Wholesale – sell to restaurants, resorts, country clubs, & bars who will re-sell the pops

Flexibility

You have the flexibility to run the business as you want.

Do everything yourself to start:

  • B2B sales
  • Book every weekend
  • Schedule & run the events

Then build a team to do multiple events per weekend. Great way to introduce your kids to entrepreneurship!

Low Cost to Start

Frios is one of the most affordable franchises.

The investment is $40k to $72k, which includes the franchise fee, downpayment on the van, opening inventory, working capital, and more.

Item 7 of the FDD provides the full breakdown.

How much can you make?

They don’t share any sales performance in the 2023 FDD.

With over 100 active territories there are plenty of franchisees you can share their numbers.

You can find resources online to help estimate food truck sales based on event attendance.

At retail, you sell pops for about $5. Do the math on this line.
