I became a franchise business owner in 2016.
A local franchisee wanted to retire, so I struck a deal to buy his two Midas shops.
I got approved for a bank loan that required a $130k down payment.
My brother and I became partners, each putting in $65k.
I pretty much emptied my savings account to make this happen.
I was willing to do whatever it took to make that business successful.
I worked 7 days a week: 6 in the stores + analyzing the numbers on Sundays.
Failure wasn’t an option.
We increased sales and cash flow, and within six months recouped our initial investment.
After that, the plan was simple: save all profits to acquire more locations.
In 2017 we acquired another shop for $120k (all cash).
In 2018 we put down $25k cash plus $125k line of credit to open a new shop from scratch.
Then another $52k down payment (plus seller financing) to acquire another.
We kept copying & pasting this strategy, pushing the chips back on the table.
Today, our portfolio will do $50M in revenue across multiple brands, states & industries.
We are entirely self-funded with no investors.
My story isn’t unique.
I have friends who’ve executed the same playbook better than me.
This is how ordinary people can build real wealth.
It’s not building the next Facebook or betting on the next crypto-unicorn.
It’s going all-in on building a “boring” service business.
Then, trust your ability to do whatever it takes to win.
Your first location is the hardest. Each one gets easier after that.
Don’t worry about “scale” or “systemizing” in the beginning.
Just focus on getting the model down:
- Turning leads into sales
- Building a team
That’s it.
