Your next A-Player lies on the couch, hungover, scrolling through Indeed using his Cheetos-stained fingers.
Sometimes….
We have hired some great people from Indeed & other job boards
But the best people are usually employed. They have responsibilities and do whatever it takes to provide for them.
It’s your job to find them.
They work at your local restaurant, Best Buy, Home Depot, Verizon store, Mattress Firm, or home service company.
A few years ago, I walked into Best Buy looking to buy a new TV.
The salesman, a friendly & professional guy, approached me and offered to help.
He goes, “No matter what your budget is, I’ll help you find the perfect TV and make it affordable”
He executed it perfectly. He positioned himself as my consultant, not a pushy salesperson and immediately addressed money by proactively discussing financing plans.
This set off alarm bells in my head.
This is the same exact strategy that we teach our Midas managers.
I bought the TV.
I asked how he likes the job and if he’d be interested in learning about an opportunity where he could be home for dinner every night and make $150k+
I tried to hire a salesman from the water-proofing company who sold me a french drain.
We’ve had a lot of success hiring ex-special operations veterans directly from the military into leadership roles.
I prioritize core values over experience when looking for talent.
This is especially true for sales & management roles.
I want someone who is driven, has high integrity, is accountable, & does excellent work. We can teach the rest.
I challenge you to go out this weekend to start looking.
A fair warning: some conversations will be awkward and maybe even embarrassing.
Get over it.
The money you’ll make by finding one rockstar is well worth it.
