At 28 years old I invested my life savings into buying two auto repair shops

I looked like I was 18

Every employee was older than me.

I could feel the skepticism.

I literally needed everyone to stay on board. I’m not a mechanic. I’ve never fixed a car in my life

The owner wanted to retire and travel.

He said something about wanting to climb Machu Picchu?

I wanted to build my own mountain

Even though I couldn’t fix cars, I knew the business well.

For the previous 6 years I worked in my dad’s & uncle’s auto repair business

My plan after buying the stores was simple:

Find some quick wins so these guys trust me

Luckily, the seller hadn’t put much money into the shop over the last year or 2

Air hoses that didn’t work. Computers running Windows XP.

Old phones, Outdated equipment.

These small fixes made their jobs dramatically easier

Then I worked shoulder-to-shoulder with them.

I told them: “I’m here for the long haul. I want to be successful. I’m going to make you guys successful. We’re all going to win together.”

And I meant it

When leading people, especially those older than you, respect isn’t given through titles.

It’s earned through action.

Those 2 stores became the foundation for everything I have today

35 shops, 225+ employees, and $50M in revenue

And I’m just getting started.

Cheers!

Brian
